Twelfth Knight In William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, Or What You Will many relationships are forged or sabotaged for and by the protagonists, and as a result these relationships are made comical. The use of disguise causes deception and misunderstanding which leads to love where it is not meant to be. Foolery leads the characters into inescapable traps, which causes chaos with their emotions, and finally pure physical attraction and not true love lead some characters into falsely believing that they were in love. Therefore relationships were twisted and contorted so often that comedy was bound to result. Throughout Twelfth Night deception caused confusion between many characters, but the one character who remain in the center of this confusion was Viola. The deception was caused because of her outward appearance. She was disguised as a man in order to get closer to Orsino. The confusion begins when Viola is sent to woo Orsino's love Olivia. She in turn falls in love with Viola's counterpart Cesario. Olivia's love is revealed when she sends her servant Malvolio to return a ring which Viola never gave to her. She says, Run after that same peevish messenger, The County's man. He left this ring behind him? I do I know not what, and fear to find Mine eye to great a flatterer for my mind. Fate show thy force. (actI,sc.v,310-315) This shows her love for Cesario and how she secretly lets her know. When Viola realizes what has happened she immediately realizes the love triangle which has occurred. This is apparent when she says Fortune forbid my outside have not charmed her!?What thriftless s ighs poor Olivia breathe! O time, thou must untangle this, not I. It is to hard a not for me t' untie. (act II, sc.iii, 20-40) Another instance when viola's disguise is believed and therefore causes a confusion is when she is mistaken for her brother Sebastian. Antonio who is looking after Sebastian, and when Viola got into a fight with Andrew and Toby, Antonio came to the rescue. He is arrested and begs Viola to explain to the officers that he has been protecting him all along. When Viola claims that she has never seen him. He says Will you deny me nowDo not tempt my misery, Lest that it make me so unsound a man As to upbraid you with those kindnesses That I have done for you. (actIII, sc.iv, ln.365) Viola's disguise is so believable that a man who has spent an extended period of time with her brother mistakes her for him. Immense confusion and severe consequences result from this deception. Therefore the use of disguise is a main factor in the creation of comedy. The time period in which Twelfth Night was set, foolery was commonly used for multiple tasks. Some used foolery for pleasure and entertainment, while others used it as a tool to get what they wanted. The use of foolery occurred throughout the play, many times manipulating another person. When Maria becomes angered at Malvolio she decides to use foolery as a tactic to get even. She writes a false letter from her lady Olivia confessing her love to Malvolio. The letter suggests preposterous things for him to do to win her love. Her foolery is so believable that he believes every word of it, as seen in this quote I do not now fool myself, to let imagination jade me; for every reason excites to this, that my lady loves me? Jove, I thank thee! I will smile. I will do everything that thou wilt have me. (actII,sc.iv,168-180) As a result of this letter Malvolio is tricked into doing silly and wild things which causes Olivia to think that he is mad. Therefore foolery proved to be successful, i n the sense that she got her revenge. Malvolio is involved in another case of foolery, but this time it is with the fool. After Malvolio is imprisoned for his insane acts, he begs to see the light of day. Toby belch and the Fool scheme a plan for Malvolio. Answer: A variable is an object, event, idea, feeling, time period, or any other type of category you are trying to measure. There are two types of variables-independent and dependent. Question: What's an independent variable? Answer: An independent variable is exactly what it sounds like. It is a variable that stands alone and isn't changed by the other variables you are trying to measure. For example, someone's age might be an independent variable. Other factors (such as what they eat, how much they go to school, how much television they watch) aren't going to change a person's age. In fact, when you are looking for some kind of relationship between variables you are trying to see if the independent variable causes some kind of change in the other variables, or dependent variables. Question: What's a dependent variable? Answer: Just like an independent variable, a dependent variable is exactly what it sounds like. It is something that depends on other factors. For example, a test score could be a dependent variable because it could change depending on several factors such as how much you studied, how much sleep you got the night before you took the test, or even how hungry you were when you took it. Usually when you are looking for a relationship between two things you are trying to find out what makes the dependent variable change the way it does. Many people have trouble remembering which one the independent variable verses which one is the dependent variable. An easy way to remember is to insert the names of the two variables you are using in this sentence in way that makes the most sense to you. Then you can figure out which is the independent variable and which is the dependent variable: (Independent variable) causes a change in (Dependent Variable) and it isn't possible that (Dependent Variable) could cause a change in (Independent Variable). For example: (Time Spent Studying) causes a change in (Test Score) and it isn't possible that (Test Score) could cause a change in (Time Spent Studying). We see that "Time Spent Studying" must be the independent variable and "Test Score" must be the dependent variable because the sentence doesn't make sense the other way around. In English grammar, aà particle is a word that does not change its form through inflection and does not easily fit into the established system of parts of speech. Many particles are closely linked to verbs to form multi-word verbs, such as go away. Other particles include to used with an infinitive and not a negative particle. In tagmemics, the term particle refers to a linguistic unit seen as a discrete entity, definable in terms of its features. (Dictionary of Linguistics and Phonetics, 2008). Compare and contrast the soldier and futility Essay The Soldier and Futility are two poems which discuss war. Both poems were written during the war by Englishmen. Wilfred Owen and Rupert Brooke died in different stages of the war as a result of it. Both poems discuss death and hate in several ways. The two say that there is a lot of hate in war but they each see death for your country from a different perspective. In Futility Wilfred Owen says that war is a terrible thing because there are so many casualties. He also says that the cause of war is usually petty and that people dying for their country is awful. As well as this he says that it is better to live than die doing your duty. Wilfred Owen has a different view towards war because he lived through most of it. He was killed during the final year of the war, in 1918. Rupert Brooke, on the other hand, didnt live through much of the war. He died in the early stages of it, in 1915. He was twenty-eight years old. In his opinion war is necessary and one had a duty to fight for King/Queen and country. Rupert Brooke also thinks that people should be proud to fight for their country as we see in the words Dulce et decorum est, which is Latin for wonderful thing to die for your country. These words are found in another of Wilfred Owens poems though but it is used sarcastically. It is as if Wilfred Owen is laughing at the people getting gassed and dying like in his other poem The Last Laugh. The poem Futility shows the negatives of war such as people dying doing their duty. These people didnt want to go and fight, they were persuaded by their friends and fellow women. The women thought that a man wasnt attractive or whole unless he wore a soldiers uniform. This made the men feel terrible and that they would never find a partner unless they sign up. They were also persuaded by the government. They would sack people so that they had no choice but to join. The government also put propaganda posters up with children asking their father What did you do during the great war? Many people gave into this; they paid the consequences by being killed. The Soldier speaks of the positive things about war such as dying with friends or doing what they were born to do. It also says that this is an idyllic world and that they should always take the chance to fight for their King/Queen and country when it is given. The poem is a very patriotic one as it repeats English and England many times. This shows Rupert Brookes love for his country. This poem also has no sense of animosity or resentment towards war. The Soldier says that each person is unimportant but in Futility it says that every person is important. The style and structure of each poem is very different. Even though both poems are fourteen lines long and they both use euphemisms there are many differences. The Soldier is a sonnet and concentrates on England whereas Futility is not a sonnet and has more symbolism. There are rhetorical questions used in Futility and it is written in the third person. The Soldier, however, is in the first person and hasnt got any rhetorical questions. It is also written in Iambic Pentameter and is a Petrarchan or an Italian sonnet. Both poems are rhythmic and have rhymes in them. The Soldier has rhyming every second line whereas Futility has half rhymes every other. For example snow from line five and know from line seven. Both Futility and The Soldier have religious connotations and mention the sun. The sun has an immense amount of significance in the poems because it is the complete opposite to what the poems discuss. The sun has life-giving powers whereas both poems talk about death. Only Futility has personifications. These include Think how it wakes the seeds. This shows us how the sun has life-giving powers. Another example is Gently its touch awoke him once which also talks about the sun. These two give the sun attributes which it hasnt got. The Soldier talks about himself and how he would always be English even if he was buried in a foreign country. This is shown by the lines If I should die think only this of me; that theres some corner of a foreign field, that is forever England. This also shows that he is thankful for being English and he would put his life on the line for his country.

Cary, John. The Social Fabric. Reading, Mass. Longhan Inc. 1999. The Midwestern Farm First let me start off by saying that the Author could have tried to make this essay a little more interesting. Yes, he had to talk about the dail chores of the men, women and children, but he made it so dull. Life in the Midwest was not dull, it was a time of excitement and intrigue and he could have incorporated this into his essay to add some spice. Although, the author did give straight up facts about life on the Midwestern farm. These facts included childbearing, women's place in the household, men's chores and other people's places in society. I am very partial to this article. Some parts I like and others I did not. The author starts off the essay talking about how immigrants are making the population increase in dramatic numbers. He then proceeds on talking about how farming technology is improving. The technology that he talks about is still used today, but it is much improved. The immigrants that came over did not have the new and could not afford the technology that was being used by the bigger farmers. They still had to use the basics: shovel and hoe. This new technology also led to being able to take care of more land at one time and debt. The bankers realized that farmers could not afford the new technology, so banks put out special loans for farmers. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã After a brief discussion with the technology aspects he starts on how the railroads and trains opened up many new pathways for farmers, which let them become more industrialized. This also let them become more commercialized and specialized. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Finally he talked about the role of the women, men and children on the farm. It seemed through this essay that women had a lot more chores than men. The women had to take care of the children, chicken coupe, milking, dinner, household chores and many other things. The men took care of the land and the cows. It may seem that women had a lot more work, but men had the more physical aspect of the jobs. They both worked and were very tired at the end of the day. Male children usually worked with the father. Sometimes the male child would help the mother with milking, but this was looked down upon.

Adolf Hitler Essay
Adolf Hitler remains one of the most infamous figures in human history. He will be known as the worst person at the worst time in human history. When an otherwise indignant Germany actually threw Hitler in jail for his views on overthrowing the government in 1923, all of a sudden is embraced as a patriot and the man who would be able to restore Germany to her past glory only a decade later. There have been scores of psychological books and studies which have tried to explain why an entire nation of sixty million people could have allowed, ignored and even assisted in not only allowing such a man to come to power and to fight and die for his warped sense of justice, but to allow to occur, the worst chapter in human history: The Holocaust. Despite there being no clear reason as to who started World War I and with there occurring a virtual stalemate on the battlefield, Germany was nevertheless blamed for the war and the Allies sought to punish Germany accordingly. In the years that followed, Germany was thrown into a deep depression, filled with record inflation, discontent and frustrations as they sought to find a scapegoat to help explain their problems. Hitler gave the German people the answer that they wanted at the time that they were desperately looking for a leader to pull them out of the meager existence that had plagued Germany since the end of World War I. Hitler would use the benefits of industrialization that had made many fearful and intimated by Germanyââ¬â¢s power and military strength. Hitler was therefore able to threaten the world with Germanyââ¬â¢s industrial strength through the economic and political climate that was present in Germany at that time. Hitler exploited these to his benefit and to the shame of Germany and the rest of the world. Adolf Hitler became aware of the world during his fighting in World War I. Hitler was twice honored for his bravery and was given the Iron Cross in August of 1918. However, it was his constant fighting with his superiors and violent temper which prevented Hitler from being promoted within the ranks of the Army. Also, Hitler not being a German citizen also served as an impediment. Hitler was a citizen of Austria but had long admired Germany and seemed to feel her pain towards the one sided terms of the Versailles Treaty as much as any German national had felt. Hitler was wounded in the war and was later exposed to chemical gas which some historians and psychologists have given credit to the formulation of hysteria within Hitler. It was during this time that Hitler became convinced that Germany would need to be saved from her current plight and that he was the one who could bring such glory. It was also at this time, as seen five years later in his writing of Mein Kampf, Hitler knew that this would have to be accomplished through the extermination of the Jews. In his autobiography, Hitler states: ââ¬Å"At the beginning of the Great War, or even during the War, if twelve of fifteen thousand of these Jews who were corrupting the he nation had been forced to submit to poison gas and all of her crippling effects, then the millions of sacrifices at the front would not have been made in vain. â⬠Hitler took the lead in blaming the Jews for the troubles of Germany and sought to reclaim her greatness in any ways possible, One of the ways in which Hitler sought to reclaim Germanyââ¬â¢s prominence in the world was a rapid arms build up, brought on by her highly industrialized factories. This was in high contrast to the condition that the Treaty of Versailles has left Germany after the war. Germany hade only six battleships, no air force, no submarines and an armed forces of less than 100,000. Hitler sought to overhaul the infrastructure of Germany and was soon involved in the largest physical improvement in German history. ââ¬Å"In only a few short years after Hitler was elected, he had thousands of workers employed, building thousands of bridges, dams, miles of railroads and other most important civil works. â⬠The architect Albert Speer was named the architect of the Reich and was responsible for reviving Germanyââ¬â¢s past glory through the construction of stadiums and other monuments to the greatness of the Third Reich to levels that were never before seen in Europe. One of these stadiums was in Berlin as it was the host of the 1936 Olympics. Over 100,000 Germans crammed the seats to see if Hitlerââ¬â¢s theories were correct concentrating the racial superiority of the Aryan race. Through the efforts of Jesse Owens and Jesse Metcalf, Hitler was proven wrong. Hitler did not let this minor setback stop him from his building and in flexing the industrial muscle of the German nation. When Hitler took over control, Germany had no air force. In the months leading up to his invasion of Poland, Germany could boast of having the largest air force in the world; three time larger than Britainââ¬â¢s Royal Air Force and even larger than much of Americaââ¬â¢s armed forces and their isolationist views. This influence towards a more industrialized Germany, did not escape the other forms of German military might. The most modern weaponry the world had ever known, in the form of the toughest tanks, the fastest planes and the most high tech artillery as well as a build up of over a million fighting men by 1935, made Germany a very dangerous member of what would later be known as the Axis Powers. Germanyââ¬â¢s industrial might was so strong that Charles Lindbergh, the once hero of American youth, proclaimed that it was in the best interest of America to appease Germany as the United States had no hope of every being able to compete with her military strength and specifically her air power. Lindberghââ¬â¢s comments propelled his fall from grace but there was scarily anyone who could disagree with his assertions concerning Germanyââ¬â¢s superiority on any factual grounds. This was the design of Hitler from the start. Hitler would seek to either scare the surrounding countries into submission or confidently invade with superior forces, brought on by his industrializing of Germanyââ¬â¢s factories, those that did not buckle under his threats. In this respect, Hitler was able to incite complete submission and cooperation from countries such as Czechoslovakia, Austria, and Poland without firing a single shot and France after only two weeks of fighting. Had Hitler not sought to build up Germanyââ¬â¢s military and economic might through her industrial strengths almost immediately after he took become the Fuhrer and within his preparation in the hope of a much greater victory, these decisive victories would have been unlikely to materialize in the ways in which they did. When the American Stock Market crashed on Tuesday October 29, 1929, not only did Americaââ¬â¢s financial economy crash but so too did many of the worldââ¬â¢s economies. Germany was especially vulnerable because her industry had been built upon foreign trade and foreign capital. Germanyââ¬â¢s economy came to a halt when those loans came due and foreign trade stopped. Hitler had now know that his chance to rise had come. Once an unorganized and brutish troublemaker, Hitler had become very politically savvy and knew that a different approach was now needed in order for his views, once seen as reactionary, to be taken seriously. Millions of people were unemployed and thousands of small German businesses had gone out of business. Inflation was very high and starvation on the minds of everyone. That is why Hitlerââ¬â¢s 1932 Presidential slogan was ââ¬Å"Freedom and Bread! â⬠Hitler lost the election by seven million votes but was ready for the run off election and it was then that he escalated his attack on the Jews as the source of Germanyââ¬â¢s downfall and their removal from Germany being the only way in which Germany could reclaim their glorious past. Hitler was able to exploit the current economic conditions in Germany, only by political means. When Hitler had first attempted to overthrow the German government in 1923, he was swiftly thrown in jail. Hitler recognized the absolute necessity of exterminating democracy from Germany and that in order to do that, he would have to become the ruler of Germany and from there, could rewrite Germanyââ¬â¢s laws that would increase his power and help his dream of a new world order, one that would last a thousands years, to be established. It is interesting to see that the political power of the Nazis increased exponentially and in tune with the discontent that the average German felt with his government and Germanyââ¬â¢s place in the world. In May of 1924, The Nazi party received only 6. 5% of the popular vote. When the Great Depression finally came to Germany in the summer of 1930, the Nazi Party enjoyed an increase in their political power as they received 18. 3% of the popular vote was able to acquire 107 seats in the Reichstag. When Hitler was announced as the Nazi partyââ¬â¢s candidate for president, the Nazi Party received 37. 4% of the vote and by March of 1933, Hitler finally became the chancellor of Germany with more than 43% of the popular vote and the ability to send 288 of their own members to the Reichstag. This was an amazingly quick rise to power for a political party that had once been on the brink of German politics and how was on their way to rule not only Germany, but a dozen other surrounding countries while having designs on the rest of the world. Adolf Hitler Essay Adolf Hitler was a notorious dictator over Germany during World War II. Hitler was a unique but complex individual that was heavenly influenced by his upbringing. Hitler became the dictator over Germany during the years of 1933 to 1945. During his dictatorship, Hitler participated in the World War II and was the cause of the Holocaust. The Great Depression provided Hitler with an opportunity to rule. Once Hitler realized the opportunity to overtake Germany, he began to run for fuhrer. Hitler was elected fuherer over Germany in 1933 and began the rise of the Nazi party. When the year of 1935 came around, Hitler had complete power. He started by beginning the Nazi army and separating the Jews from everyone else. The Jews were sent to very brutal concentration camps where they were held hostage and faced with death. At this time the genocide was in full attack. The mass murder of the Holocaust lasted for approximately four brutal years and ended when the American troops invaded Germany and over powered Hitler. ââ¬Å"Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in Braunau, Austria, a small town across the Inn river from Germany. â⬠(Hoffmanl). Hitler moved to Germany in 1893 and remained there until his death. As Hitler grew up he began to have many feuds within his household. Hitler mainly argued with his father, Alois Hitler. His father did not agree with his interest in art and German nationalism. His interest fueled his evil ways. During Hitlerââ¬â¢s earlier years as a child his younger brother, Edmund Hitler died. When Edmund died, the family had a falling out and resulted in many problems throughout the family. When Hitler grew up, he moved out of the house and had major money problems. When World War II broke out, Hitler Joined the army and was present in multiple battles. Adolf Hitler pointed out the Jews out of everyone in Germany. His memory was very sharp and he liked the writings of philosopher Nietzsche, Karl May, a writer of Westerns, and works on medicine, biology, astrology and occultism. Though all of them excite him but he did not concentrate intellectual curiosity in any single field. Yet, he measured himself as he had a mastery over history, art and architecture. â⬠Commenting on reading in Mein Kampf, Hitler wrote: ââ¬Å"Reading is not an end in itself, but a means to an end. One who has cultivated the art of reading will instantly discern, in a book or journal or pamphlet, what ought to be remembered because it meets oneââ¬â¢s personal needs or is of value as general knowledgeâ⬠(Hitler 1939:42-3). It is obvious that Hitler tried to communicate the sense of wider learning than, in fact, he actually had. During his student life, his formal education was interrupted but his reliance on self-learning continued with his disdain for intellectuals and formal education. Hitler was a man with a closed mind for whom reading was a means of reinforcing his own prejudices. He had a very selfish, frustrated, distant, unapproachable, lonely young man unloved and unloving personality in Vienna. Hitler was differentiated in mass by his extraordinary power in political convictions and his stanch belief in his own rightness and fortune. Hitlerââ¬â¢ main aim was the Nazi movement and to empower Germany. In 1923, Hitler planned to grab control of Bavaria and capture power but he failed. He devised a new style of politics. He understood the significance of rituals and display in mass mobilization. Nazi party line skillfully projected him as a messiah, a savior, as someone who had arrived to overcome people from their distress. Hitler was not an innovative philosopher. He got bundle of ideas from his diverse reading in boyhood and his time in Vienna and later on as a soldier in the First World War. Winstonââ¬â¢s profession leads him to rebel against the Party by writing about the present in his diary to inform the people of the future what actually occurred in the past. Winston wrote in his diary entry, ââ¬Å"If there is hopeâ⬠¦ it lies in the proles. â⬠This rebellious thought written in Winston diary shows that the proles are the only ones that can actually rebel against the Party because the proles arenââ¬â¢t put in rigorous monitoring that members of the Party, like Winston, are. This is because the Party sees the proles as not intelligent since they seem pleased with their life because they are satisfied to have food, shelter and entertainment. This links back to what I stated about the proles being the largest population in Oceania and are being manipulated by the Party, this is the reason why they didnââ¬â¢t overthrow the Party because they have an elevated image for the Party without realising that they are living in poverty. Orwell creates a picture of a society that is influenced by the government through Winston diary. The word ââ¬Ëhopeââ¬â¢ indicates that something virtuous may happen and this would cause the readers to believe that Winston rebellious tactic of writing in his diary would be the spark that saves Oceania. Another form of Winston rebellion against the Party is the forbidden love between him and Julia. From the third person narrative weââ¬â¢re informed of Winston emotions for Julia. At the beginning Winston disliked and desired to rape and kill Julia. When Winston first encounters Julia, he doesnââ¬â¢t want to lie to her, so he introduces himself to her by saying, ââ¬Å"I hated the sight of you. I wanted to rape you and then murder you afterwards. â⬠Julia being a part of the Junior Anti- Sex League and working in the Ministry of Truth causes Winston to be suspicious of Julia as she could be a spy working with the Inner Party. Orwell could be showing us how oppressed Winston truly is since he wants to do horrid things to Julia because he desires her and doesnââ¬â¢t trust her at the same time, Winston assumes Julia is a part of the thought police. In Oceania the society is influenced by the government through destroying trust between people, the creation of the thought police and the fear that lies in Room 101. This is the reason why Winston struggles to trust Julia until she confesses to him by slipping a note that says, ââ¬Å"I love you. â⬠This causes him to be confused about his emotions because his heart tells him that he loves her, but his brain screams sheââ¬â¢s a traitor working as a spy for the Inner Party. Nevertheless, this doesnââ¬â¢t stop Winston from pursuing a sexual relationship with Julia as a form of rebellion. When Mr Charrington let Winston rent a room without telescreen for him and Julia to have an illegal love affair, this was the spark that lead him and Julia to the Ministry of Love to be tortured until the only love they could have was for Big Brother. This is because the government is determined to stop them as they are trying to abolish orgasm, removing all human bonds. ââ¬Å"The sex instinct will be eradicated. â⬠Orwell shows how the Party is dehumanising citizens by the uses of dialogue which is said by Oââ¬â¢Brien, a member of the Inner Party, in Room 101 to Winston. The word ââ¬Ëeradicatedââ¬â¢ would make the readers realise that the Party motive is to have total control over Oceania by taking away pleasure from the citizens. This could be a way for Orwell to remind the readers the importance of feelings because emotions are a part of human nature. Emotions are significance to humans because feelings serve important functions and are very necessary, even though they can be really painful at times. This is because they provide information just like senses. The Party wanting to get rid of an emotion like pleasure would dehumanise the citizens of Oceania because pleasure brings an experience that is positive, enjoyable and worth seeking. To take that away would make brainwashing people a lot easier for the Party. Similar to Winston and Juliaââ¬â¢s forbidden love, Katniss and Peeta on-screen romance in the arena defies the Capitol when they threaten to eat poisonous berries. The Gamemakersââ¬â¢ wanted to make the final more entertaining so declared that only one victor can win. Katniss figures out that the Gamemakers never intended to let her and Peeta survive, this suggesting they wanted to create a dramatic fight to the death between Panemââ¬â¢s star-crossed lovers. For Katniss to suggest that she and Peeta to give the Capitol no victor is the greatest act of rebellion against the Capitol in the novel. A victor is needed is an element for the Capitol to enforce fear in the citizens of Panem. Without a victor Panem would acknowledge the oppressive ruling because if Katniss and Peeta carried out their dual suicide, the Hunger Games would have been deeply distressing to the viewerââ¬â¢s living in the Districts and Capitol. The pain that was supposed to provide entertainment would have become too disturbing for the public to watch. It may even start another rebellion in Panem because people would be more aware of the Capitol actions and treatment to innocent people living in the Districts. The Hunger Games would go from being amusing to a real-life tragedy. Collins shows the readers the dangers of ââ¬Ënightlockââ¬â¢ by a minor flashback Katniss had about her father, ââ¬Å"Not these, Katniss. Never these. Theyââ¬â¢re nightlock. Youââ¬â¢ll be dead before they reach your stomach. â⬠The dialogue spoken by Katniss father, who was a coal miner that taught Katniss hunting skills, shows that Katniss is purposely rebelling against the Capitol to the readers by suggesting to eat the berries. Collins could be warning us that the creation of a perfect society is a goal that is incompatible with human nature. In conclusion, 1984 and Hunger Games are the most-powerful written novels warning us against a totalitarian regime. Although, Orwell uses Winston to convey a message to the readers that humans cannot rebel successfully against a totalitarian regime whilst Collins uses Katniss to convey a message of hope and human strength, both authors still use the protagonist to give a warning to resist or rebel against a corrupted regime, highlighting the dangers of a totalitarian state. Winston was unsuccessful in rebelling against Big Brother which had caused him to become ignorant and loyal because he is able to doublethink, something he was not able to do before. He is able to believe that ââ¬Å"2+2=5â⬠and the Partyââ¬â¢s slogan, ââ¬Å"WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTHâ⬠which are all obvious lies. Orwell uses an oxymoron to show us that Winston no longer exists as a thinking individual, he exists only as a puppet of Big Brother. Winstonââ¬â¢s unsuccessful rebellion could be an indication that Orwell is informing us that humans will lose their individuality if under enough fear and will not retain traditional values if they believe themselves to be in danger. Katniss, unlike Winston, stays strong and doesnââ¬â¢t lose herself to an oppressive regime. Katniss rebellion doesnââ¬â¢t end in her outsmarting the Capitol and Gamemakers when her and Peeta win the 74th Hunger Games, ââ¬Å"and right now, the most dangerous part of the Hunger Games is about to begin. â⬠The dialogue spoken by Katniss shows us that her rebellion isnââ¬â¢t over and would be continued by Collins. Orwell and Collins warn us of giving too much power to a government. If there is no rebellion, the totalitarian dictatorship only gets stronger with the passage of time. Blue Collar Jobs Essay
In the current economic situation in the U.S, graduating high school and going off to college for a degree has pretty much become the goal for most of the students here in the United States. According to the Institute of Education Sciences, studies have shown that between 1999 and 2009, the number of students in the United States perusing a degree in college full time has risen by almost 45% while part time students increased by 28%. With the vast expanding number of students, the number of job openings for these certain fields are simply not enough to provide every graduate with a job. Because of this problem the unemployment rates are staggeringly high here in the United States which includes the 44% those coming out of college. (Rampell) Take Kyle Bishop for example. Currently 24, he has been waiting tables, delivering beer, and working at a bookstore since 2009 when he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. (Rampell) Stories like this arise every day and only more appear. It will eventually affect future college students pursuing a degree and those who return to study to obtain a degree. Despite these stories however, many companies have been seeking employees to fill up positions for months to years. Many of these jobs have included machinist, welder, and many more in manufacturing, hence blue collar jobs. Now you may be thinking, how can companies not fill up position for manual labor? But with the pace of the advancement of technology in modern society, machinery has become more complicated and requires a higher skill cap to use compared to before while the number of workers with the skill to operate them has been dwindling. In the North Dakota oil fields, there is a 30% shortage of petroleum engineers and a 10% shortage of machinists that the companies simply cannot find enough workers with the skillsets to fill up these positions. According to news article from the Dallas Morning News the workforce is very skilled but theyââ¬â¢re mostly people with experience who are soon to retire. It seems like jobs canââ¬â¢t be found without experience and experience canââ¬â¢t be gained without a job however, many say vocational school may become a solution. Students will be able to gain experience by learning about certain jobs in the field and acquiring the skills required without the need of actually finding a job. More people would become qualified to take over the empty positions and those soon to be empty as people begin to retire and more skilled workers join the workforce which could ease the unemployment rates. Every move made can affect the future of the United States economy and the future workers. Education is certainly very important but obtaining skills to work certain jobs is probably one of the most important factors in getting a job.

Dragon's Blood The title of the novel that I read is Dragonââ¬â¢s Blood. The author of Dragonââ¬â¢s Blood is Jane Yolen. The major character in Dragonââ¬â¢s Blood, Jakkin, is introduced after the prolog, and talks about how he is looking for a dragon. The reason why he wants a dragon is to fill his ââ¬Å"bond bagâ⬠with gold for him. This means that he is a slave and wants to buy himself out of bondage. The setting of Dragonââ¬â¢s Blood is mentioned in the prolog. In the prolog, it states that the boy Jakkin lives on Austar IV, which is a desert planet. When I read this, I immediately thought that there most likely is an Austar III etc. On Austar IV, Jakkin lives in a nursery for dragons. This is where he steals his dragon. The plot of this book is about Jakkin, who is in bondage. He steals a hatchling from the nursery, and raises it as his own. The reason why he did this, is to free himself from bondage. Jakkin has an external conflict with Akki, Jakkinââ¬â¢s masterââ¬â¢s daughter. Jakkin also has an internal conflict with himself. The climax of Dragonââ¬â¢s Blood is when the dragon Red, also known as Heartââ¬â¢s Blood, wins her first pit fight. She almost kills her opponent because the other dragon does ââ¬Å"Fools Prideâ⬠. ââ¬Å"Fools Prideâ⬠is when a really good dragon is defeated and starts to whine implying finish me now. If a dragon kills another dragon then the killer either gets slaughtered or goes straight to the stews. Instead Jakkin persuades Red not to kill the other dragon and therefore Jakkinââ¬â¢s Red wins the tournament. The resolution is when Jakkin is finally freed from bondage. Jakkinââ¬â¢s master Sarkkhan frees him. Sarkkhan becomes Jakkinââ¬â¢s sp onsor because only the first match is free, the others cost money. Anyone who has the double ââ¬Å"kâ⬠in his or her name is either a slave or was a slave. Jakkin Stewart is the main character, and he is fifteen years old at the present time.
